ラット、マウスに飲水投与することで大腸炎を誘発させます。
デキストラン硫酸ナトリウム(DSS)は、ムコ多糖の一種で、腸粘膜上皮障害を起こします。
粘膜バリア障害の結果、DSSは粘膜下層に達し抗原提示細胞に貪食され、活性化した抗原提示細胞がT細胞活性化を引き起こし、炎症性腸疾患と類似の症状を誘発すると考えられます。
